A Weary Traveler's Song
They say,
"Night is darkest
just before the dawn."
But you say,
"I do not see the sun,
there is only darkness,"
As you return
to Morpheus' dull embrace.
I have tried to guide you,
O Weary Traveler,
Through this, our Dark Night
My torch, I have borne it
For you,
O Weary Traveler.
It is not much,
I know,
But it is all
I know
And all I have, I give
to you,
my weary little one.
But alas, you do not follow
Returning instead
to the opium of Sleep's dreams.
You have said,
"I love you."
But never to yourself.
You have said,
"I love you."
Clearly---
you love to suffer more.
You have said,
"I love you."
But I cannot
Let you drag me
Into your endless darkness.
And so I say,
"Goodnight,
O' Weary traveler."
